Wild Hops

We have found some hop vines in the UP and wondered if they are actually wild or possibly planted by the old homestead about 100 or so years ago?

It is difficult to say for sure- they could be native, but they also could have escaped from cultivation years ago. The original native range of hops in Michigan is not clearly defined. Michigan did have a thriving hop industry in the 1800's. Here is a link to a page of records that list where hops have been collected in Michigan
