Hello, please let us know where this plant is located. If it is outside of the US - what country? If it is inside the US, what state and county? This way it will be easier for us to diagnose the problem and assign the question to the best expert.

Is it an indoor plant or an outdoor plant?

Hello Ann!
The plant was in South Vietnam and it's an outdoor plant.
Thanks
Daria

Good morning,

It looks like a spiral ginger (Costus barbatus), which is actually not a true ginger. It is going to be an herbaceous perennial that would work outdoors (full sun, but best with a little afternoon shade) or a large house plant, requiring very bright conditions. Like most ginger/banana relatives, it prefers rich, well-drained soils with plenty of organic matter, regular water, and tends to be a heavy feeder. Like a banana or heliconia, each individual stalk will die after it blooms, but will continue to send up new ones. They can be divided, but also root easily from stem cuttings.

Hope this helps!
