Bright-green grass

Bright-green grass has taken over my lawn. Can you tell me if this is a weed, and if so, what's the best way to get rid of it?

Frederick County Maryland

This appears to be soft crabgrass, a summer annual, easily controlled with two applications of a preemergent herbicide. The first application should be applied in April followed by a second application 6 weeks later. It will soon be going to seed . It can be killed using a post control herbicide called Drive or Crabgrass Killer, available in box stores or a farm supply store. The active ingredient to look for is Quinclorac, follow label instructions.
