Seckel pear tree

Asked August 11, 2016, 4:17 PM EDT

I have a 7 year old Seckel pear tree that bloomed for the first time this spring. I netted the tree, so I still have pears hanging on it. When will the pears be ready to pick? I can’t find anything definitive on the internet about when the pears will be ready to pick in our mid-atlantic region or in Maryland. Thank you, Janet

The seckel pear, under normal growing conditions, will ripen towards the end of August. You can speed up the process by picking some early, they will ripen sooner once they are harvested.
