Kill weeds or plant?

Asked August 10, 2016, 11:57 AM EDT

We recently (within last month) redid our backyard landscaping which forced us to plant some new grass. Some grass is up but it is a bit spotty in places. We also have a large creeping Charlie infestation and it is coming up with the new grass. In the fall, should we treat the yard for creeping Charlie or try to "overseed" or neither? One thing to also keep in mind is that we will be gone at the end of September for two weeks so we won't be able to water during that period.

Kill the creeping charlie this fall this fall and try dormant seeding to fill in the sparse patches. Grass will not choke out creeping charlie and it tends to get everywhere and create more bald spots. It also does not stand up to foot traffic.
