Trying to start a fruit orchard

Asked August 9, 2016, 9:22 PM EDT

My family has approximately 100 acres of land in Southern Ohio. He have an area (approx 3-4 acres) on the slope of a rolling hill where we want to put a fruit orchard. My question is where do I hire an expert to help with all of the preplanning?

Lawrence County Ohio

Hi There,

You are thinking about tree fruits, such as apples, pears, peaches, Dr. Diane Miller would be our state specialist. Here is her contact information: ttp://hcs.osu.edu/our-people/dr-diane-miller She can help you some over the phone.

If you are thinking about brambles, blueberries or grapes, I can try to help you over the phone. You can check out our fruit plantings in Piketon, Ohio. https://southcenters.osu.edu/horticulture

You can also reach out to your extension office: http://lawrence.osu.edu/about/staff They do not have an ag. educator in the office. Do not know how much help you can get.

Take care and good luck!
