Tree farm

Asked August 9, 2016, 4:38 PM EDT

If a person had a chance to start a tree farm what type of trees would you grow ?? Beech oaks, evergreens. The land is flat and has access to a pond for water. Full sun all day long Thanks for any help you may give CE Gutterman

Definitely not beech. Slow growing and very particular about soil. Evergreens only if you want to grow nursery crops (and you need to make sure you have a market for them before you start) or Christmas trees (lots of work). Red oaks would not be a bad choice, but most valuable would be black walnut. feel free to call me at 502-633-4593 if you have further questions. The Division of Forestry might also be a good source of information.
