grass recommendation

Asked August 9, 2016, 3:37 PM EDT

Due to a few factors, such as the septic system and poorly draining soil, our property tends to stay wet. The grass we have is exceptionally thick, but in a few spots it stays so muddy the current grass variety isn't filling in. Can you recommend an accessible variety that would thrive here?

Hello, thanks for your question. Unfortunately there are no turf varieties that will do well in a very wet area such as what you are describing. However, there are native plants that can tolerate both wet feet and drought conditions. I would suggest you read our publication entitled "Native Plant Landscaping of Septic Systems", which you can find at this link: http://www2.ca.uky.edu/agcomm/pubs/henv/henv508/henv508.pdf.
