Maple tree disease
There is a very large maple tree in the yard of the home i am renting in rockville. It is losing leaves on several large limbs. Several large limbs are dead and have fallen off. Has been getting worse over 2 year period I have been here. Any ideas?
The maple tree may have declined for many reasons such as a girdling root, drought, poor drainage, poor soil conditions, etc. See our publication http://extension.umd.edu/sites/default/files/_images/programs/hgic/Publications/HG86%20Common%20Abio...
When subject to these problems the tree can be susceptible to insects and diseases but these issues are secondary.
We recommend that you contact the owner. It is a good idea to contact several certified arborists for a site visit regarding the health of the tree to make sure it is not a hazard and the best way to proceed. http://www.treesaregood.org/
