Mystery grass in my yard

Asked August 7, 2016, 4:45 PM EDT

This hot weather grass grows on a dry sunny corner of my yard. It has a yellowish cast to the green. It does not burn up. It does not spread with horizontal rhizomes, pulls up individually. I'm wondering what it is, should I pull it up or let it grow. Seeding does poorly in this corner, even with lots of watering, but these guys do fine.

This sounds like yellow nutsedge, sometimes called nutgrass.
Here is our page about it: http://www.extension.umd.edu/hgic/yellow-nutsedge

We can't recommend chemical herbicides across state lines, so you should contact your local Extension for control options.
