What is this plant?

Thank you for attaching the image which includes a flowering stem. The plant is pokeweed, Phytolacca americana. Although it’s an attractive ornamental, it’s becoming quite widespread here in the northwest, perhaps because birds eat the fleshy berries and, then, drop the seeds far from the parent plant. It’s considered an invasive plant in Oregon and certain other states.

If it is in your garden, you may want to start removing it as soon as possible, certainly before it releases its many seeds. Its large fleshy root may be a challenge to remove because, if pieces are left behind, it will grow again.
