What's eating my petals?

Asked August 4, 2016, 6:11 PM EDT

Something has devoured every single petal off my echinacea (coneflower). The plants are three yrs old and located in a full-sun area. The petals disappeared just when they were at full bloom. What happened?

It is not uncommon to have petals eaten off of coneflowers and not to see what did it. There are many culprits that work at night. You could try to go out at night with a flashlight, but it could be that they have eaten and gone. In the future, if you notice a few petals missing, go out at night to see what is going on. When you find out, treat as needed. http://www.hortmag.com/weekly-tips/pests-diseases/what-is-eating-my-coneflowers-petals vw
