What's wrong with my crape myrtle?

Asked July 28, 2016, 2:02 PM EDT

Hello, My crape myrtle looks ill. Many of the branches look white and shrively on the ends. I'm hoping these pics can help. It is a 4 year old tree and this is the 2nd year we've seen this. It's in full sun and still blooms, but it just doesn't look quite right.

Looks like your crape myrtle has powdery mildew, which can be deforming. We would suggest you replace yours with one that is more resistant to powdery mildew. Registered chemicals that can be used for it do not cure it, but have to be applied repeatedly to keep it under control. http://www.usna.usda.gov/Newintro/crapemyr.html
