Aloe vera

Asked July 23, 2016, 9:40 AM EDT

This aloe plant has thrived beautifully till recently. First one..frond?...withered and died (see photo), and now a second one is starting to wither (see other photo). It's lived in this pot for about a year in cactus soil. It doesn't get a lot of sun in this window, but as I said, it thrived here until recently. Any advice would be appreciated!

It was either over watered or it is under watered. The symptoms look the same because in a case of over watering the roots rot and can not take up water. If it is not getting enough water the leaves will swell if it gets more water. If it is under watered water it until water comes out the bottom of the pot. Let it the soil dry out almost completely before watering again. Aloe Vera require a bit more water than cacti. They do better with more sun. The leaves are a light green so it is a little short on light. If it was over watered once it should recover. They are fairly tough.
