tree damage

We have a Korean Maple tree that looks like rabbit damage or vole damage. The trunk was wrapped through the winter about 18" from group up. The damage appears above the wrap. The tree is now slowly drying up and more leaves are withering each day this month. Is there anything we can do to save it?

Plants with rodent damage may survive if healthy bark remains on 50% or more of the trunk circumference. More extensive damage (girdling) is usually fatal.

We can't be sure without seeing the tree onsite, but our guess is that nothing can be done to save it.
