Crabapple Trees on Busy Street (ok to use?)

Asked July 19, 2016, 9:49 AM EDT

Hi there! Thank you for taking my question. We live on Pimlico Parkway, which is a mega-busy street. We have two crabapple trees next to the street. This year the apples are begging to be made into jelly, which I have done a few times in the last 19 years since we bought the house. However, I'm concerned that the trees may leach chemicals over the year from exhaust, plowed snow, rain runoff. Do you think it is safe to make jelly from these trees? Thank you again for your help. -Lisa Rogers
