How can I tell if some scat I've found on my property is bear scat?
Clackamas County Oregon wildlife identification
It's hard to see what the contents of the scat are from these shots, but I think it's quite possible (depending on size) that these are from a deer or elk eating really moist, rich plants - as are currently available. Although we're used to seeing the usual "pellet" form from those animals, once they switch to foods with high moisture content, we tend to see these patty-type excretions. Bears can also produce patties, but we tend to also see that when they're mass-feeding on juicy things like berries, which also tend to show up on the surface of the scat.
