daylilies yellowing

Asked June 29, 2016, 11:15 AM EDT

My daylilies are blooming well this year, but some of the leaves are turning yellow. Is this a nutrient issue? What I have noticed however is the daylilies that are in an area with crushed limestone and receive only rainwater show no signs of yellowing. Stumped!

Hello and thank you for using Ask an Expert. It sounds like your daylily's could be suffering from one of two things. Either too much water or not enough water. Daylily's need at least one inch of water per week along with rain water to be beneficial to the plants.
Also, when you water be sure to water at soil level. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Thank you Vicki, I think it might be getting too much.

I'm glad I could help you. You are very unique as most plants don't get enough water. Keep on gardening!!
