insecticide , roses and praying mantis

Asked June 28, 2016, 12:58 PM EDT

Hello. My knock-out roses are infested with Japanese beetles. What can I use that will not harm the praying mantis? I have Bayer granules (merit) but cannot find info on effect on bee or mantis. Help! Thanks, David M.

The only safe way to move the beetles without harming the Mantis is to use a garden hose. Any insecticide that will kill the beetles will also kill the praying mantis. If the number of beetles is small you can simply pick them off but if they attach in a large number, as they usually do, use the hose to knock them off.
