Earlier this Spring, we bought a new lilac bush from the local (Lafayette) greenhouse and planted it in our back yard. We used potting soil; hole dug proper diameter/depth; watered daily; even put some MiracleGro plant food to help it get started. Now we're seeing some leaf drop, yellowing & brown spots on some of the leaves. We also used some store bought cow manure to fertilize it more. What are we doing wrong?

NEW LILAC BUSHES PROBLEMS

Yellow leaves and brown spots may be indicative of not enough fertilizer- especially nitrogen. Check the nitrogen content of the fertilizer. If necessary, add more fertilizer. Cow manure may have an unknown high salt content.
