White Radishes

Asked June 28, 2016, 12:36 AM EDT

I sowed white radish seeds early May and just this week started harvesting. I'm very disappointed. :( The flavor is good, but the inside of the radish is hollow down the center & is a darker color - a little pithy. I suspect it's because of the unusual hot weather we've been having, or possibly a bug? I live in Hillsboro.

Good evening,
Radishes get pithy with age, particularly white diakon types. Plus when weather is very warm they grow really fast and it is hard to harvest them timely so that they are firm and crunchy. Radishes do not 'hold' well in the field. Best to pull them at the optimum time and put in cold storage.
