I have moved into a new house and I have Leyland Cypress outside and they have something white stuff on the branches and the trees are looking discolored. What is it and how do I treat it without using too much pesticide? Thanks

Without photos, we can only guess what the white stuff is, but a good guess is that you have spittlebugs on your Leyland cypress. These links discuss treatment. http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/spittlebugs-trees-and-shrubs
