Toona Tree

Asked June 21, 2016, 5:20 PM EDT

A neighbor has planted what she calls a Toona Tree. It resembles the infamous Tree of life that is considered a nuisance in Denver. Can you confirm that a Toona Tree is indeed different and will not become another dreaded tree. What are its positive characteristics?

Below is a link to information from the USDA regarding its potential as an invasive species. It is not the same tree as Tree of Heaven - Ailanthus altissima. The Toona tree is Toona sinensis. These trees are in different families of plants, although they both originated in Asia and the leaves are similar in appearance.
In skimming through the article below, it appears that the Toona Tree has been in the US for many years. In some areas - particularly urban ones - it sounds like it could be invasive.
