Columbine can be treated with a systemic insecticide early in the season to prevent the leaf minor moth eggs from hatching. If your plants have leaf minor damage, cut them off and new leaves will grow.

To clarify since now officially "Summer" ( i.e. no need to worry about more larvae hatcing this year) do not treat systemically just remove damaged leaves. Should a systemic insecticide be applied next spring? as larvae are in the ground in that area?

We wouldn't worry about this pest or plant. It is common and rarely causes a problem. Treatment next spring is optional and not recommended by our entomologist.
