Bugs on rubdeckia

Asked June 18, 2016, 9:58 AM EDT

Hi there are lots of reddish bugs on the stems of my rubdeckia, not the traditional black eyed Susan. Can you help me eradicate them, unless they are beneficial.

This looks like aphids on the stems. They are a sucking insect. Usually predators and parasites (natural enemies keep them in check). No control is necessary. Simply monitor the health of the plants. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/aphids-flowers
