Inquiry about Dying Trees

Asked June 17, 2016, 8:49 PM EDT

Hi, Someone mentioned that you all may be a good resource for a problem we have at our home. We have two medium and one large tree on our property and they are all dying (all 3 are different types of trees). Do you have any recommendations for an arborist who could give us an opinion on what has happened and whether or not they are salvageable? I would like to do whatever possible to save them and I'm concerned that a tree removal company will recommend cutting them down regardless. Thank you!

You are wise to know the difference between 'tree cutters' and those that are specialists in tree health, namely arborists. Certified arborists are credentialled through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).
You can search for a nearby company online and ask if they have an ISA-certified arborist on staff, or visit www.treesaregood.org to search for one by area.

Here is our publication that helps to know when a tree should be removed: https://extension.umd.edu/learn/how-do-you-decide-when-remove-tree
