How to kill a trumpet vine

Asked June 16, 2016, 12:57 PM EDT

Hi, I have a trumpet vine that I have been trying to get rid of for a couple of years with not much luck. I have tried digging it up but it is persistent and comes back bigger and better every year. Can you help?

Trumpet vine can be very hard to kill when it is established. I would suggest that you cut off the top, leaving some of the vine, and then paint the stub with a non-selective herbicide like Round Up. It may take more than one application and/or there may be several vines now due to the aggressive manner. They will have to be painted too. Use one of those foam brushes box stores sell for paint.
