Blue star high graft problem

We have a blue star high grafted that is about 4 years old. This morning noticed a white/gray material growing up from the soil about 6" up the trunk. Could you tell us what it might be

However, it's possible it is a harmless slime mold known as dog vomit fungus. Here is some info from our website: http://extension.umd.edu/learn/fungus-among-us Note that the color of this fungus can vary from almost white to yellow or darker.
