Tree roots headed toward my foundation

Asked June 14, 2016, 10:38 AM EDT

I have a Silver Maple that has some substantial surface roots that are headed for the foundation of my home. Would I severely injure the tree of I cut the roots? See attached pictures of the roots and the tree. Thank you, Tony

Yes and damage to the trees roots will damage the tree, hopefully your foundation is sealed and the roots cannot gain access and will grow along it. If there are cracks however the roots will certainly try to enter and may cause damage. If this continues to cause problems you may want to consult a arborist concerning removal.
