Poison Ivy plant removal

Asked June 13, 2016, 11:40 AM EDT

A few online sources who seem to have had a successful experience, have recommended the following natural extinction of the invasive weed: Heat vinegar & salt together, add dishwashing liquid which will aid in the adherence to the leaves. Your response? Thank you in advance. I'm trying to avoid toxic chemicals!

We have no research on these household products indicating their effectiveness and we cannot recommend it.
In general, Contact herbicides such as vinegar and potassium salts of fatty acids (soap sprays) burn down the tops but do not kill the roots of hard to control weeds.
