pruning lilacs

Is it necessary or beneficial to prune the spent flowers on my lilacs? Thank you.

It is not necessary to prune spent lilac blooms. It is possible that the bushes will bloom more profusely next year, and the bushes will fill out more if you do prune them, but leaving the flower heads on the bush won't harm the plants.
