Is fall a good time to plant asparagus? If so is there any special action needed?

Asparagus is a very particular plant. In our climate, it does not like to be planted in the fall and it must be three years old before you can begin harvesting. Fall planting can be accomplished successfully in some of the southern states where the temperatures are warmer. It is appropriate, however, to prepare the site in the fall so that spring planting can be accomplished with minimal effort.
