We moved into a townhome that had rose shrubs planted. We started noticing some patches on the rose leaves. We have also noticed ants along the stems and leaves. How do I tackle this problem? Also, is it good to leave the flowers on or should we cut them? Is there a good way to propogate them?
The ants are not harming your roses and do not warrant any control measures.
The spotting/feeding damage looks like it was caused by rose slugs. Here is the information you need to address that: http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/rose-slugs-shrubs
Roses are best propagated from cuttings. Here is information on the technique: http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/southerngarden/roseprop.html
