Dogwood Crosspollination?

Asked June 1, 2016, 10:06 PM EDT

I found three dogwood seedlings under a Kousa dogwood tree. There are a few native flowering dogwood trees 50 feet or more from this tree. Do different kinds of dogwoods crosspollinate? Or will these seedlings be Kousa dogwoods?

Kousa dogwood does not cross-pollinate with our native flowering dogwood. The seedlings will probably be Kousa dogwood, because they are under that tree. Though it is also possible that a bird could drop a seed from a native flowering dogwood under the tree. The leaves of the two species are different. Look at photos of them in a search engine if you want to be sure.
