Trees bearing flowers (tulip poplars) and seeds (maples)

Asked June 1, 2016, 3:04 PM EDT

We have lived on our property for 40 years and NEVER seen as many tulip poplar flower petals and maple leaf seeds fall in anything like the quantity of this year. I was wondering of you had received similar reports and if you would have any reason for such an abundance! Thanks in advance for your assistance,

We have not gotten reports of high quantities of flowers of tulip poplars or seeds on maples in general.

When trees are under stress (or declining), they will sometimes put out tremendous numbers of seeds to try to perpetuate themselves. Sort of a last gasp effort. This is a possibility, but unless your trees are showing some symptoms of decline, they are probably fine and just enjoying the moist spring weather.
