Our massive Norway spruce is located on a rise about 100' from what used to be Buckeye Lake. This spring, with every strong wind/storm, it is shedding hundreds of branch tips, most with new growth about 2-3", also about 1 1/2" old growth. Some seem based on a normal split area, others show the branch torn off. Normally, the water table is about 30", but with dropping the lake 4', our portion of the inlet that is in line with this tree is now muck, with no surface water. It normally would be around 3' deep. Suggestions? We love this old tree (it was fully grown when we moved in 45 years ago).

Needle cast has been really bad the past few years in spruce trees. I have attached a link that list some spruce tree diseases. http://extension.psu.edu/pests/plant-diseases/all-fact-sheets/spruce-diseases
