Branches are turning brown

Asked May 23, 2016, 8:32 PM EDT

Why are the branches on our evergreen turning brown on the north side of the tree. I did notice some white spots on the trunk of tree and branches. The pictures show the brown branches and white spots. Thanks for your help

The photos lack the detail needed to be certain, but the tree may be affected by a disease called white pine blister rust.

Compare the symptoms you have observed on your tree with those described and illustrated at the following websites:

If you conclude that blister rust is not present, consider asking a certified arborist or forester to assess the tree's health and recommend a course of action.
