White pines have a couple diseases or pests that could be causing your white pine to die. One is the white pine weevil. This insect is brown and white and feeds and lays its eggs in white pine tree bark. The feeding of larvae can cause the branches or the leader to curl and die. If you decide to treat the pine, you will need to consult an arborist or licensed pesticide applicator. Another possible cause could be Diplodia Shoot Blight. This is a fungus that overwinters in the needles that have dropped on the ground. Using a fungicide before bud break or on new needles may help control the fungus.
