Groundhog control

Asked May 12, 2016, 7:06 PM EDT

A neighbor is being besieged by a groundhog who's apparently digging under his deck. I loaned him my Havahart trap, which he used for just a week or two, with no results. This seems a rather short time to give a trap a proper trial, but that's just my opinion. The neighbor, a nice guy, however feeds foxes with chicken parts and other foods he leaves outside. I would think this would be counter-productive to good suburban animal control, but the neighbor seems to ignore any suggestions I have on this topic. Are there any suggestions you have for control of the groundhogs, preferably those which won't create an insoluble schism between neighbors, yet still get the job done? I've used the Havahart trap to successfully trap and release a groundhog to the wild about five years ago.

No one likes to be told what to do--neighbors or groundhogs. Groundhogs are difficult to get rid of even with a trap. You could consider sharing the following links. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/groundhogs
