Freezing / cold weather

Asked May 11, 2016, 10:54 AM EDT

With the upcoming cold weekend, how low can calla lilies go? I planted several and they are hard to cover. Any suggestions for materials to cover them With if they they do need to be covered. Also, am covering a few dahlias. Will a brown paper bag be enough cover? Thanks, this service is the BEST.

Cover won't be needed unless temperatures below freezing are predicted.

However, calla lilies and dahlias are frost sensitive. Many people drape sheets over plants needing protection. You might cover them with cardboard boxes if using sheets isn't feasible. Straw strewn over and around the plants is another possibility. Paper bags will probably be sufficient for the dahlias unless the temperature falls below 28 degrees.
