I am considering high bush blueberries for our family farm in Russellville, MO Would you recommend this for this area? What first steps would you recommend?

Cook County Illinois

The first thing you should do is check the soil pH of your proposed planting site. Blueberries require an acid soil (4.5 to 5.5) and I would recommend against planting if the soil pH was 6 or above. If the soil pH is to high I would recommend acidifying the soil with sulfur before you plant (This could take several years) or bringing in soil that is acidic to plant in.
Here is an article I wrote several years ago on acidifying the soil for blueberries.
