Grass clippings can certainly be used as mulch, but they are not as long lasting nor as aesthetically pleasing as wood mulch or compost. Typically, we recommend using grass clippings around annual plants such as tomatoes.
Fresh grass clippings are an excellent source of nitrogen and an excellent additive to a compost pile or bin.
