This spring none of my sumac trees have leaves and are dead. All dry and snap. About over 60-75 trees all dead. I do notice splits between the branches so maybe borer? Other than cutting them all and burning what else should be done? Will they resprout up? Odd because they have been healthy since 1996.

Sumac grows best as a shrub, and cutting the larger stems to the ground will renew the plants. They will sprout from the ground; cutting down the dead stuff will make it look better. The split as shown in the photo is not borer damage.

Thank you Susan for responding so fast. I feel better. Have a great summer.
