Asked May 3, 2016, 8:56 PM EDT

I planted 2 year asparagus roots aApril 1st. Out of twenty roots five have put up shoots that are no larger then a eighth of an inchand about six inches tall. How long does it take for the roots to all come up? Wll it put out more than one shoot per root?

Prince George's County Maryland

The pencil like growth is from a bud originating in the crown of the plant ,as growth progresses, more of these stems will grow providing more life to the crown Leave them for the first year. Harvest sparingly in the second year. By the third year ,your in full production.
