Growing a healthy, flowering Wisteria

Asked April 28, 2016, 8:59 PM EDT

Hello. I have a lovely wisteria which grows copiously in spring and summer but seldom flowers. It has been growing up and around a dead tree trunk. We just removed the tree trunk today due to the danger it was posing. I want to preserve my Wisteria plant. What should I do? It has very long vines and about one third of the bottom parts of the vines don't have any leaves. Can I save this Wisteria plant? Should I be fertilizing and/or pruning it? Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Molly Bird
