poison ivy

Asked April 28, 2016, 6:01 PM EDT

How can I safely remove this plant that is growing in the middle of shrub. Could I safely dap the plant leaves with a paint brush containing something like 'round up' on a hot day with no rain in the forecast (I can't see the root). Approximately how long would it take for an established poison ivy plant to die.

Daubing glyphosate (active ingredient in RoundUp) on poison ivy leaves is a good way to get rid of poison ivy in a shrub. The length of time that it will take for it to die depends on the strength of the root system and how well it is established. Wear plastic bread bags over your gloves and apply the glyphosate to as many leaves as you can reach. If the poison ivy is well established, you may have to apply it more than once. Check it weekly until it is gone. vw
