Bagworm infestation on ornamental pear tree.

Asked April 27, 2016, 12:32 PM EDT

So far, only 2 white bags are noted on a mature pear tree. If they were cut off ( and killed) now, would that stop infestation of whole tree?

You may be referring to the eastern tent caterpillar. This year has been a big year for them and numbers are up. They are common pests of wild cherry trees and are prevalent in landscapes now. This feeding will not hurt the trees. See our website for photos and control information. If not send us photos of what you are noticing.

You can use a long pole to break up the nest and let the birds eat them for.
