Hydrangea frost bit

Asked April 26, 2016, 7:14 PM EDT

With the cold spell we had all of our hydrangea bushes turned black - the branch tips and the new foliage. There is a little bit of new growth foliage coming up now but the bushes look awful. Should I cut them back? Will they bloom this summer? Thanks!

You can cut the brittle, black leaf buds back to a green healthy bud or even to the base. New shoots will appear and with some cultivars bloom this season.
