bugs on columbine

Asked April 25, 2016, 7:05 PM EDT

My columbine is covered with small bugs. I'm not sure if I should try a soap solution to spray but I am concerned that the insects may be destroying the flowers. I try to stay with organic approaches. I will attach a photo. Thanks!

This photo is so blurred we cannot see the insects (in fact, this doesn't look like most columbines.) However, it may be aphids, which you can control with horticultural soap or oil. Read the label carefully for dilution rates. Do not use strong pesticides which will kill your beneficial insects. Beneficial insects help keep aphids under control.

Please send us a sharper photos and we'd be glad to help further.
