White growth on arborvitae

Asked April 24, 2016, 8:34 PM EDT

I planted a row of aborvitae last fall and noticed a white growth on some of the leaves while trimming them down today. The aborvitae are a hybrid between green giant and nigra varieties and I'm located on long island. Anybody know what this is?

We viewed your photo and it looks like the white substance may be bird excrement. It does not look like an insect or disease issue. You can monitor the trees and send additional photos if you see additional symptoms.
